If you look at the animation of the engine from Mazda's site you can see exactly how it is done. It is a 6-port intake system like the 2nd gen n/a's and the GSL-SE's but the rotating sleeve is done a little different. There are 4 exhaust ports leaving the combustion chambers but only 3 ports leaving the engine. The two ports in the intermediate housing siamese together into one port runner making it look like 3 ports exiting the engine.
