Thats what i've always heard as well, so long as its within 1 letter designation it should work out fine (a/b b/c c/d being ok pairings with matched being 'best').

If you knew the answer, why ask? Did someone try tellin ya otherwise?

having two letters that are exactly the same is a bonus, means both rotors are the sameish weight. Mazda's letter designations are to signify weight discrepencies of the rotors after manufacture and balancing. Being within 1 letter of each other is within spec ( a/b and such) but being exact letters is optimal (C/C in your case) so it helps with balancing later on. Last I saw, all rx8 rotors were the same weight.

Having the same letters is fine, actually a good thing. If your too far off, you can always use a drill press to make the rotors the same weight.

You would prefer them be the same, however, if you weigh them you may be surprised what you find.

so when rebuilding should you match the weight of the rotors? I have access to precision scales.

I'm glad I saw this thread...I was about to start a build on a 12a the has one b and one c...so this is ok. What is different about the rotors that on the 12a they are actually marked front and rear?

I think you want the weights close. The farther apart you get (a to b vs a to c) the worse. They don't have to be identical in weight, but the closer the better.
