Goopy doesn't rechrome housings, they refinish them so the surface is smooth and even. If your housings have large strips of chrome missing, finding better condition ones is the best option.
Someone was experimenting with cermet coating housings, haven't heard about that in a few years.

Mazdatrix and Chip Motorsports offer iron lapping services. Chip also offers renitriding.
I have not used either.

Goopy apparently does offer a housing re-chroming service, at least that's what they have on their instagram. I'd shoot them an email.

given new FD rotor housings are approx $880 EACH, and rechromed housings are around $400 each... (that'd be exchange) they look CHEAP to me.

of course all the usual caveats apply.

Goopy's housings are the culmination of a ten year project. Godspeed Goopy

sounds like a fair deal to me. On their website it says they sandblast and everything, so you'll receive what is basically a brand new housing.

Not bad.

I bet they've done a bit of testing on the strip.

The impression that I'm getting is that if you have S5 irons you should nitride treat since you can't remove as much material if you do go about getting them lapped. I'm looking to do the same to mine if I'm out of clearance.

I'd also be very impressed if that housing can be rechromed. That's pretty bad.

I haven't ordered yet, but Mazda Motorsports still lists 12A rotor housings. They will only sell you engine parts for the vehicle that you compete with, and you have to provide proof every year that you are competing.

Not very expensive, either. I have a 12A car again, I feel like I should buy a pair on general principles.

I also have a very tall stack of rotor housings that I have kept waiting for when someone figured out a process for rechroming.

Hi just putting this link here Ultra-hard metal coatings Duralar gives longer wear like DLC the most advanced hard coating on the planet .Replaces hard chrome provides clean and dry lubrication May be a process we can use for rotor housing's.says cheaper than chrome May not do small quantities just thought its worth a look at

I emailed them about rechroming a pair of REPU 13B housings and was quoted $575 each. Not bad considering new (old stock) housings are about $1,000 each (if/when you can find them). I'm pretty set on using my RX-5 housings if they're still in good shape for my engine build I have planned, but with it being tax season, I might just go for the rechromed REPU housings instead.

*The quote I got was based on these pics of the flaking (both housings are in similar condition)

Wondering if anyone has gone and done the re-chrome process with goopy. Really interested myself, but I wanna see what other people say before I jump on.
