rotary diesel..?

so im doing some research as im typing this and was wondering..

has any of u guru's do a diesel conversion yet.. if so who.. i think it would be such an awsome idea.. better gas milage for those who like to daily drive it .. or less gas pit stops on the track.. alos i think it would be smog exempt as well, now how cool would that be! especially for us californians and dick head refs.. ..

here is some of my findings..

http://www.smartplugs.com/engines/ro...nglerotary.htm

i am no hardcore tuner but am mechanically inclined... just how hard would it be to convert a rotary engine to diesel..?

IT's been done. check out www.smartplugs.com they have a one rotor on there running on diesel. they direct inject the fuel through one of the spark plug holes. they should turbo it on a two rotor and give some HP figures. I bet their system has problems running at higher RPM's though.....

also check out http://www.wankel-ag.de/entw_e.html
a 4 rotor diesel putting out 260 HP with 130-152 pound dry weight. Again, looks like it just needs some boost.

well you can run a diesel engine at 9:1 compression although it will be VERY hard to start and make no power. Then you have to make sure you have the internals prepped in such a way that the globs of carbon dont pile up. Then you try and turbo it to get actual power and run into cooling issues. probably sealing issues too.

I remmber reading about exsperiments with desiel rotories being done early on during the motors infancy. They had problems with apex seals and warped houseings due to the amount of compression a deisel requires to ignite.

I think John Deere played around with it a bit before abandoning the project.
