Rotary engines don't have camshafts right? No camshafts equals no rods right? Then why did my mechanic just tell me that he heard a rod knock when he started my car.

If I'm the ignorant one in this situation someone please straighten me out. Otherwise everybody pray for the soul of my 7.

Does your mechanic KNOW anything about rotaries?

I have a buddy who was told by a MAZDA dealer mechanic that his oil leak was caused by "a bad head gasket". He never took his car there again.

 

I had a 1979 RX7 and it had what sounded exactly like a rod knocking. It was found to be a bad main bearing on the ecentric shaft. I can't remember whether it was the front or rear one but it certanly had a knock to it.

A rod hugh....I wouldn't take my car there anymore. I mean we don't have any but beside that noise....I would find somewhere else to go to.

 

Yeah he's a dipshit for sure, but I know the noise he's talking about. Sounds just like lifter noise. My car does it too. Anyone know what it is?

 

Thanks for the replys. I had my car towed back to my house as fast as I could. Supposedly they had a mechanic that used to race the Mazda rotary. I don't know what happened to that.

About the knock. If there is a problem with the excentric shaft would I be able to hear it while cranking? This whole thing started when my car started cranking but not catching on.
