Angry rebuilt engine...wont start..want to cry!!!

please help me.....i just finished rebuilding my 86' gsl non turbo......after countless efforts to get it started i finally got it goin....was running very rich;had to plug and unplug the fuel pump to finally get it started....after some minor tuning it would start and stop on it's own.(even took it out for a quick burn around the block)...so i went out the next day to fire t up and it ran for about 5 minutes and then died again.....i haven't been able to get it started again since......i know for a fact it is consuming a great amount of fuel cause it just reeks ....i took out the trailing plugs and they are dripping in gas but the leading aren't near as bad or really wet at all..as far as aftermarket mods....i have ran 2-1/2 single to cat-back exhaust, racing beats header( with stock o2 sensor).8mm accel wires greddy mufflers..k&n filter, and all ports and gaskets were match ported. ( i also took off the air pump and fresh air recirc. line from exhaust)..i currently have 94 octane in the tank; does or would this poise as part of the problem???...at this point i am ready to take it to the dealer (not impressed with the 78.00 an hr.).....so i am hoping someone out there can shed some light on maybe something i have missed.....i have changed the tps. and all of the vacum lines ;could it maybe be a pulsation dampner , feul pump (ei. not enough pressure) any info. would be much appreciated...p.s and yes i am running new spark plugs

regards

shawn

if your trailing plugs are so much wetter than the leadings, i would say they are not firing. pull them and turn it over to see if they're getting spark

If there's that much gas getting into it you're probably both flooding it AND "washing down" the combustion chamber walls such that the seals aren't working as designed. Test your fuel pressure- my bet is it's way too high.

Also, try this:
1) Remove the spark plugs and let the motor dry out some
2) Squirt a bit of oil into the chambers (Leading hole): To aid in sealing
3) Crank it over a bit: To distribute the oil
4) Re-insert plugs
5) Crank it just a bit: To get some gas into the chambers
6) Pull the fuel pump fuse: To prevent flooding
7) Crank it a bit more: It may just start
If it fires is would suggest that you are indeed running over-rich, possibly due to too much fuel pressure.

Hope that helps,
-Kwe
