Rear stationary removal

Rear stationary removal

Hi guys so my 13b is out of my car for some upgrades.. And am replacing the rear oil seal.. Because of an oil leak I had at the rear. Should I remove the rear stationary gear to also change the o-ring to play it safe. If so how can I go about the removal?? With out moving other parts
I know they can be hard to remove with out hitting it with a hammer from the other side.

the only gotcha with this is that if the E shaft moves while the gear is out, the apex seals will fall out, and you get to pull the engine apart. not that this has ever happened to me, but that is the risk.

once you have the engine in a safe place, loosen the 6 bolts for the gear and take it off. if you need to pry with something, be gentle.

clean gear, replace o ring, and put it back. occasionally they need a little tap from a hammer to pop back in.

tighten the bolts, and done.

But if you were to have the engine flywheel side up, would that not decrease the risk of them falling out?

Do the o-ring every really go bad?? I feel like not even messing with it then

nope! the gear locates the rotor, remove the gear, and move the rotor and suddenly the housing isn't holding the seals in the groove anymore
