Question question on underdrive pullys

I was told that underdrive pullys are good for good h.p. gains. I have also heard lots of negitave things about them. For instance...when your at idle (with pullys on) your car idles lower than it supposed to be. In that cause causes problems in the future. Ive heard of peoples water pump failing, something about there radio and electoric system in the car gets all hosed up and other negitave story's. O and btw, these storys are all from piston engines. So im curious about rotary engines, will this efect happen on my 86 gxl?...if story's/rumors are true???

I was looking at the pully set from mazda racing. If anybody knows anything on what i have typed plz reply back...thanks all

I've been thinking about getting some from Rotary Performance (www.rx7.com) but I don't know the "side effects". For those worrying about idling issues, all I can say is learn how to adjust your idle adjustment screw on your TB. As for the water pump issues, I'd think it would EXTEND the life of the water pump due to it spinning slower (15-20%) if I'm not mistaken.

I have some on my FD. They work fine. Never felt much of a difference when I put them on though. I'm pretty sure they are good for the waterpump. Your lights and such may dim but that never happened to me.

If I'm not mistaken, underdrive pulleys "underdrive" all of the accessories making them work more efficiently with less effort and freeing up a little bit of horsepower/torque. I don't see how they could damage alternators and waterpumps, though.
