question about rotart rebuild- honing?
When you rebuild a plain old piston engine you have to hone the bores to allow the rings to bed in.
Do you have to hone the rotor housings to allow apex seals to bed in? If so, how? is there a special tool for this?
sorry, new to rotarys and dontt want to have too many unknowns when i have to rebuid mine!

You simply need a good rotor housing for the apex seals to work on. If the housing is bad you replace it. If your budget allows it your always better off starting with new rotor housings on most rebuilds. The honing your talking about is more akin to lapping the plates. The flat surfaces on the steel plates need to be measured and if out of spec lapped. My engine builder and I will not build an engine without lapping the plates.
