problem with my engine

i dont know if this the right forum to ask or not but anyways i was with my friend today that i was working on my car and every time i push the clutch in and it was making a noise for about 3 weeks that i thought that was the trow out bearing, but is not is the E shaft that was moving foward when i was pushing the clutch. and is a notible moving, you can see it go foward i would it said about a 1/4 of an inch but i could be wrong. the engine was rebuild about 240 miles ago but was torn apart because the guy that had it before me decided to put better apex seals and he drove it for 2 miles more and the car cougt on fire but not in the engine. so he sold me it to me and i just have the engine for only three weeks and i thought all the time that the trow out bearing when bad. what could it be wrong? any gess please? the guy that i brougt the engine said that it could be a spacer that goes in the front betwen the couter weight and the front plate. any gess of what could be wrong? thanks

george

BTW is a street ported and rebuild 87 turbo II engine

U have a serious problem there, u shouldn't drive it til this is fixed. First make sure the bolt in the front pully hasn't come loose. It's hard to believe that the person that put that engine together forgot to put that spacer in it, which may have cause damage to the thrust bearings.

well i was the one that put the front cover together and i put the spacer and i checked the bolt and is not loose. and like i said , im probably exagerating but i dont think is 1/4 but is verry notible. im gonna check how much is the play because the guy told me that hes gonna pay for the spacer and any other damage parts. and didnt drove the car at all, i only had the engine running for 3 weeks and just start , idle , running for 15-20 min and shut off soi didnt actually had a driving time or rev it up more that 1500 RPM

hey george i think you've got the wrong impression.

first off, niether the car or engine have ever been on fire.

secondly, i replaced the oil seals inside the engine, not the apex seals, and the engine wasn't run after it was assembled.

finnaly i did not say i would pay for any damaged parts, i said i would pay for a new spacer and thrust bearings IF they needed replacing. that's the deal and i will honour it.

let me know what the play is and i'll order a new spacer asap.
