Pitting/corrosion on the faces of the irons?

Took this REW block apart for a rebuild and I noticed the faces of the irons have some pitting/corrosion on them. I have never seen this before on any of the motors I have rebuilt.

This motor is suppose to be rebuilt with about 30k miles. Do you guys think they will be fine after lapping?

Does this look familiar to you guys? I've seen scratches, burn spots, grooves, etc... But never seen this type of corrosion.
