Paint vs Paint vs Paint

I was surprised when I saw that in the RotaryResurrection Daddy of all Rebuilds write-up that he used wheel paint for the rotor housings. Not that I'd question Kevin's choice, just that I didn't know there was such a thing as wheel paint.

So is there really any difference between engine, wheel and caliper paint?

Is it all just marketing?

Is there any reason you can't use any of the 3 when repainting the engine?

I sprayed the clutch hardline and bracket with aluminum Duplicolor engine paint. After a week had gone by and we were diagnosing clutch fluid leaks I sprayed the joints with brake cleaner so I could see if they got wet. I was surprised that the paint on the hardline and bracket immediately melted and splashed all over the place. Doh!

Are the caliper and wheel paints more resistant to brake dust and brake cleaner? Or again is it all just BS?

I think one of the main differences is the temp resistance. Most engine paint is like 500 degrees and some are 1200 degree resistance.

temps

Yeah, the Duplicolor engine and caliper paint are both 500 degrees and ceramic.

The 1200 degree version is for headers per their how-to video. Bet an RX's exhaust would cook it.
