old A/C compressor
I picked up an old N/A FC s4 about a month and a half ago, and the belt that turns the a/c compressor was nowhere to be found. I asked the guy I bought it from, who only owned the car for a couple of months himself, and he stated that "it was like that when I bought it." So no luck figuring out if it was busted or sacrificed for a tiny bit of Hp gain. The pulley can be turned by hand, but resists a little, which I have been told is a good sign.
And that brings me to the point of this thread. Short of a recharge, is there anything "special" that I need concern myself with before throwing a new belt on a compressor that has been sitting under the hood disabled for months, possibly years? Should I not even bother with the old compressor, go down to the Mazda dealership and let them rape my wallet for a new one?
I am hoping that someone with more mechanical experience than I can help me out here. Thanks for any help
P.S. I did try searching it first, but had no luck.
