CA Oil lab test results

I found a great link to test results for over 50 oils. I take no credit for any info just wanted to pass along. Ive been running rotella t6 in virtually all my vehicles and these results aren't very favorable. SEEMS PENNZOIL ultra 5-30w had the best results, but im wary to try such a thin oil in our engines.

Good find and interesting analysis. I too am using Rotella and happy that you shared this. These oils are now of interest.

10W30 Valvoline VR1 Conventional Racing Oil (silver bottle) = 103,505 psi
zinc = 1472 ppm
phos = 1544 ppm
moly = 3 ppm

10W30 Valvoline VR1 Synthetic Racing Oil, API SL (black bottle) = 101,139 psi
zinc = 1180 ppm
phos = 1112 ppm
moly = 162 ppm
and

5W30 Pennzoil Ultra, API SM = 115,612 psi
I have not been able to find this oil with the latest API SN certification. The bottle says, “No leading synthetic oil provides better wear protection”. For once, a product’s hype turns out to be true.
zinc = 806 ppm
phos = 812 ppm
moly = 66 ppm

Valvoline VR1 Synthetic Racing Oil, API SL (black bottle)
10W-30
20W-50

Valvoline VR1 Conventional Racing Oil (silver bottle)
10W-30
20W-50

Pennzoil Ultra
5W-20
5W-30
10W-30
5W-40

Can our cars run fine on 5-40 or is 10-30 preferable?

How important are moly levels? Is this what moly is in reference to? Moly Basics - Bob is the Oil Guy

Once again thanks for sharing.

Good to see some actual #'s for various oils and my good old castrol 20/50 is still a good choice and I will keep running it.

How often are you guys changing your oil with synthetics? Castrol edge is synthetic, right?

3k miles .at most . I get synthetic for the fact that they have thin cold weights , and thick hot weights like 5-50 0-40 , Not for its long lasting abilities .

you have to change oil often in a rotary one of the main reasons is blowback , your oil gets contaminated with fuel and becomes less and less of a lubricant .

This is why most people dont bother with synthetics . why pay twice when you still have to change the oil same intervals .

--> FerrariChat.com - FAQ: Motor Oil Articles by Dr. Ali E. Haas (AEHaas) <--- this is my reason. I read this years ago, and it gave me an understanding on oil that Was pretty enlightening
