new coolant seals on the outer side are leaking.

i've just completed my first rotary rebuild 87GXL. the problem i'm having is it looks like the back aluminum case on both sides of the back and mid irons is leaking on the outside. leak seems to be traveling down the seam and leaking off the oil pan on the lower corner on the exhaust side it a fairly strong rate. the motor runs only had the car running for 4-5 minutes before i shut it down due to the leak. i just have a hard time believing that the coolant seal would leak i bolted everything up to the way the factory manual states.. i used an Atkins rebuild kit i used PJ on all the seals groves to hold the seals in place i double checked to make sure that the seals were installed without twists and assembled. i have not pulled plugs to check if coolant had leaked past the inter seals i presume that the inter seals are fine. one idea that i have is the lower intake were it bolts up to the block the factory uses a mult-steel gasket were as the Atkins kit has a composite gasket. I know i'm just brainstorming, but has anyone had a problem with this type of gasket not sealing against the aluminum coolant jacket hole that the cases have? Maybe that the source of my leak? i really not wanting to bite the bullet and pull the motor back out. any thoughts on this thanks.
