NEED Help with 3rd gen

here's the problem:
i have an automatic 3rd gen, small single turbo (TO4e). when everything was all done with, the motor started up fine.
idled for 15 mins. I then took it for a spin.

then i hear a semi-loud pop! now, the car wont go anywhere... Reverse or Drive doesn't go anywhere, but the car still idles fine.

is my tranny shot or the torque converter???
Can you guys help me out??

thanks.

What EXACTLY were you doing when you heard the pop? Did this pop seem to come from underneath you or from the engine bay? Post your answers to this as well as your original post in the 3rd gen forum. Check your tranny fluid, too. Does it look brown?

i was just braking the motor in, since i had just installed it. Coasting around 30mph or so. the fluid level is where it should be, nothing is leaking. it's still redish, how ATF should be. i dont quite remember where i heard it from. it was hard to tell.

i can shift it in gear and all...but it wont go anywhere if i rev on the gas.

that's the problem.

hope that helps.

TIA

That's what happened to mine after I got a power fc. It took less than an hour too. I was on the freeway and gunned it. I heard a loud BANG so I let off. When I got home. No reverse. Then reverse worked again, but no 3rd gear. The stock tranny WILL NOT HANDLE much over stock power levels. I was lucky to have first and second gear and then when it would shift into third it would just spin like it was in neutral. I had the tranny rebuilt with level 10 components. I got one of their torque converters too, but I don't think you can get them anymore. I dropped about 1500 in parts and then about 2K in labor. They showed me the busted disks inside. Your tranny is toast, get it rebuilt. You could get the parts from level10, but a LOT of people have had problems. Mine took forever, but I did get it eventually. Options are a 5 speed conversion, or I considered a bell housing adapter and a domestic auto trans that was beefier and not computer controlled. Were you running synthetic atf? Should have, and I hope you do in the future. Knock on wood I didn't have any more problems with 5-6K on the tranny running 13 psi on stock twins. I am going single so I read your post with interest. I am going to upgrade the trans cooler too, but I will eventually do the swap.

$1500 in parts and $2000 in labor?

My trans (auto) went out a month ago, same problem... i could feel it going (gears slipping) and then one night... all gears acted like neutral. I could rev it up and the car wouldnt go anywhere. Rotary Performance (www.rx7.com) hooked me up with a new tranny and my final bill was under $3000.
