Metal "shavings" in trans,anyone else?

So before I removed my shifter to replace the very worn out bushings and spring,I had to Struggle to get the old **** off, twisting and turning like crazy, not even thinking about what I was doing this is what I found once I removed the shifter and looked down. The shifter ball and grooves werealso worn out. But has anyone else had this happen or have an idea how to remove all this crap? I didn't want to flush it and have everything be in the rest of the trans because right now it looks like it's just on top

The turret fluid is separate from the fluid actually in the trans. Clean it out the best you can however you see fit.

that's disintegrated bushing material from the shifter. most shift housings look like that once a bushing has been eaten.

on the side of that housing is an inspection plate, you can guess what it can also be used for.

it other words, thats not "in the transmission" so it's not going to mix with the fluid that keeps the gears cool and lubed.

you can clean all the stuff out without worry.

Thanks for the replies.
In case anyone finds this and couldn't figure it
out like me as (easy as it is)

I attached a pic of the side cover/inspect plate on a trans out of a car.
Ill run some gear oil through and use a blow gun to spray it all out .

According to madatrix im supposed to refill it with trans oil before putting the shifter back on
