ok i have an 87 TII right now it has the stock turbo on it it has been ported and new apex seals put in first of all the car seems to overheat a little bit like it goes 3/4 the way to H is that normal i mean i dont think it would be i mean it has not gone to H but other than the thermostat being no good what else could be the problem? second there is a whining coming from well it sounds ike its coming from the alternator but it is a new alternator also it goes quieter at high rpms so i was thinking vacuum but then again it only started happening after i took the turbo off and put it back on the idiot who had the car before me blocked off the coolant to the turbo so i unbloekd it and hooked the coolant lines back up although i do not know maybe the turbo itself is fried i have another one for it but i do not at this time have the correct flange to put it on also when the turbo engages and starts to spool the car stutters and then takes off im thinking timing but not sure anyway if anyone has any ideas please let me know thank you

Now for me trying to help.
The alt. even though its new, might need to be tightened more, or it is over tightened and it needs a new bearings. Just a thought. As far as the turbo stutter, I would check timing, like you thought.
