Leaking LSD at drain plug

This winter I seem to have inherited a leak at the drain plug on the back of the differential. Should there be a washer of some kind-- I don't have one. This is the 3rd winter I've stored it like this, first few years were fine. I believe that I have 80w oil in there, haven't messed with the plug nut in probably almost 2 years.

Would a small amount of teflon tape be alright to use there?

Thanks!

Funny, I just picked up the same problem on my '87 TII. It also did not have a washer.. I added one and haven't had a drop on the garage floor over the last few days.

Teflon tape is ok to use on the plug. - wrap it up over the flange of the plug and it will prevent the plug seizing also.
