I got a 1989 RX7 GTU
Hey everybody I just got a 1989 Rx7 gtu, it is a fun little car, I am not trying to sell it or any parts off it in this tread. I am just trying to find info on this car i bought.
It has a 13b motor that was rebuilt 11k miles ago, it doesn't have any turbos or power adders. I was wondering how good this motors are? this one had to be rebuilt at 125,000 miles, seems kinda soon,
Is there any cheap/easy ways to make a 1989 Rx7 faster? I am looking for tips and tricks,
I was thinking about selling the 13b with 11k on the rebuild , and swap in a 5.3L chevy truck motor, but i am not against keeping the rotary motor, (just gotta make it have more power (it has lots of power but it seems to all be higher in the RPM's
I wanna try to race in AUTOCROSS events with it. i think that would be fun. I dont really know much about these cars, i have been reading post on here learning. I am a member of other Car forums (as i have quite the collection of cool cars, ) lots of the car forums are really helpful, with really good people, I hope the same is here. I am just trying to learn about my new car. and how to make it better.
I see lots of parts on ebay, like strut braces, and fender braces and frame connectors, are these a good investment to help make the car preform better? it already has Eibach springs and torico struts on it,
It seems to have a open rear end but still does donuts with ease. I bought the car thinking it was a GTUs (which from what i read they are badass) but it turns out it is only a GTU no S at the end.
I live in Michigan.
This is pretty much the only section it will let me post in so thats way i am posting here.

It's a fine car to participate in autocross. If you want to seriously compete/win, you'll have to build the car to the class rules and exploit every advantage you can find in the rule book. Autocross does not emphasize power, since you're almost never past 3rd gear. The key is keeping the engine in the powerband. With an NA S5 rotary, that's up above 6k.
There are better handling bang-for-your-buck parts like camber plates and bushings. The shocks and springs are a good start. In a safe environment, start playing with the shock settings, disconnect sway bars, to see how each affects the car's behavior.
The best mod I ever did to my NA was some 205/50/15 tires on the stock convertible wheels. Light wheels and nearly GTUs gearing really made the car a blast to drive.
