how to tell if rebuilt??

is there any way to tell if a motor has been rebuilt or replaced? With out taking the motor apart? i know on piston engines you cannot unless u pull the motor apart, didnt know if there was any special tricks to rotories.

a lot of times engine builders stamp the top of the rotor housings with dates and serial #'s.

If it's an FD and it runs. That right there is a good indication it's been rebuilt.

Mine had RTV between the housings and it had squeezed out and you could see it so thats how I know.
******* monkeys put the engine together when I stripped it.

Basically, the same thing; it all depends on the rebuilder. Mazda remanufactured engines used to have a stamp on the front. Unless the person who rebuilt the motor marked it somehow, there is no real way to tell.

and it being a '93, i'd say it's a pretty good indication. i don't think there's ANY 93s still on the original engine.

hahahahahha. To the original question: Obviously, you bought the FD and it is assumed that you are going to spend mucho money on it. Another $60 for a compression test won't hurt your wallet much, willit?
