How does a rotary engine work?

IM looking to buy a 3rd gen RX-7 and would like to know how the rotary engine works. Also what are the ups and downs of rotary over a regular engine. Also from what I read it seems as if almost every1 has replaced th engine before 100k is this common with 7's. If I bougth a 7 id liek to knwo how my engine works . I just want to gather all the information about the rx-7 things i should look for when searching for a car common problems etc. I want to see if an rx-7 is worth it or not in my case. Thanks for any help guys

This site also has great info on what the different parts of the rotary engine do, how to troubleshoot any possible problems, upgrade parts, or just some great knowledge for those who want to know how rotaries work versus piston engines.

Howstuffworks.com has one of the best explanations I've seen. Do a rotary engine search their, and you'll find all you need to know. Welcome to our world

Most 1st and 2nd Gen Rx-7's last more than 100k on the engine. Most 3rd Gen's don't.
