How do you know when oil level is full?

...sounds like a totally stupid question doesn't it? My '87 NA would buzz in a hard right cornering situation and then stop when return to straight. I was told this meant low oil. Oil pressure stays at about 60 and engine temp is always fine. So, I check the dipstick and it shows full. But I want to be safe, so I add about half a quart and the dip stick still shows full. I don't want to overfill so, going back to the original stupid question, how do you know when the oil level is full?

Has anyone else seen this happen with their car? I'm serious here

I check my oil level when the engine is cold and always keep it at full. During track days adding an extra half quart doesn't hurt. Having an oil baffle plate helps too.

Revisited issue with the buzz on cornering: Come to find out, it was the coolant level in the radiator and not the oil level. What happened was that the buzz started happening while I was at idle sitting at a stop light, and one time when it happened, the check coolant light came on. The engine temp never got elevated. After the car had sat for an hour or so and I knew the pressure in the coolant system had eased, I looked in the radiator and the level was down significantly. I added coolant to fill it, ran it for a few minutes with the heater on full and checked it again. Buzzer problem fixed. Moral of the story seems to be to check the oil level and the coolant level regularly.
