High Temperature Exhaust Paint
High Temperature Exhaust Paint
I have been told by numerous people that there is no manifold paint that can hold up to the heat of an Rotary Engine. Well I might of found some that will.
Installed a one year old aluminized steel RP superflow pipe with cat system, which I painted with some alumimum colored high temperature paint. The car has been driven about 2700 miles and it looks as good as when I first put it on. it may be just a little bit duller in color. No peeling flaking as people told me would happen. Just thought if anyone is interested there is paint out there that will hold up to the heat.

Well I know some people with the aluminized steel pipe systems have tried to clean up their system then paint them to protect them from rust, for show etc. I bought the used RP superflow used and it was starting to get some rust so i sand blasted it and then went looking for paint that would hold up to the heat put out by the Rotary. Everyone said there is no paint that will last but I think i my of found some on the market.
we sell some hi-temp paint at my work, but its usually used on rollbars or the chassis (of the formula mazdas). but someone had ordered a new header and it came in black. we all thought that was weird and a rotary friend of mine that works in the same garage (not the same busniess, though) even said "that wont last." well, i believe the header is still black and its on a racecar, but they get less time and miles than daily drivers. nonetheless, they're at high rpm to redline (which is 6850 regulated/spec rules) for 30 minutes at a time. ideal exhaust temps i'm told are 1600-1700.
formula mazdas run a stock port n/a block, weber carb, 3" exhaust.

It doesn't even have a temp rating.
