help with universal joint

Hello,

I need to replace the universal joint in my 79 rx7 and I was
wondering how difficult it is. I bought a factory manual and
there are only about two pages and it says I have to check
the balance of the driveshaft and instal a turning holder to
keep the lubricant from leaking out.

What is a turning holder? and what can I use in place of it?

and usualy when the universal joint is bad does the driveshaft
go bad too?

any help would be greatly apreciated.
thanks in advance

turning holder? Dont have a clue on that one! (may keep oil from leaking out of the tranny?)
Some driveshafts have C clips on the inside of the U joint cups (this kind is replaceable), outhers have 4 or 5 stamp marks on the outside of the U joint cups,(this kind is not, witch= new driveline) if you look on the outside of the driveshaft and the U joint holes are smooth than your ok. if you see markes your screwed! ask a local driveline shop thay will know.
Hope this helps!
