Hello from Ireland

Hello All,

For about 3 years now ive been toying with the idea of buying a 3rd gen RX7.

Everytime i set about doing it i just cant bring myself to doing it because ive heard so many horror stories.

In Ireland there are about a handful of these cars around and my main issue is that there is not many places where parts are available or maintenance can be carried out on the car. Now i may be open to correction on that statement but from looking around that seems to be the general look of things. If there is any Irish members on here i would really like to hear from you !

From browsing many of the RX7 site out there the general concensus amung the various owners is that they are no more unreliable than any other car, as long as the oil is changed at regular intervals and the car is looked after.

What im basically looking for here is your opinions and experiences. I want to know how true all these stories i hear about unreliablity are, i want to know if it is true that the engine needs to be rebilt every xxx,xxx miles, what your common problems have been with the car, are maintenance costs high, what are the common problems with the car, what your favourite things about the car are and hopefully at the end of all this you will have assured me enough about the car and i will be contacting my supplier in Japan and asking him to send the car over to me.

Anyhow, id appreciate any information that youn can offer me, and im hoping to be a RX7 owner in the near future.

Thanks
James

PS: If this topic has already been covered please can you provide me with a link. I had a quick browse around the search facility but it didnt seem to come up with the goods.

**** the brits!

There are a few of us here heavily into our 7's.. we just keep to ourselves because of all the FUD and what not that is as a result of the many misconceptions people have about rotaries here in Ireland. Also there are a few individuals who are calling themselves engine rebuilders who are doing some seriously bad jobs (which I have witnessed) and taking money for it. Not good! True there is no real professional support for these cars, even considering the RX-8 is on the market here.. but there is a group of us who do all work, including rebuild etc. ourselves. I've mapped a few 3rd gens and I own a couple myself.. PM if you want to chat.

I'll say one thing about the RX-7.. if you're concerned about things like maintainence or fuel economy - walk away. The 7 is a sports car which requires attention comesurate with its performance. Aside from that, these cars and the rotary engine have truely amazing potential!
