Fried Battery! HELP with Repercussions

last night my battery died. I went to jump it and due to the lack of light at 11 pm, the rewiring of my battery cables to accommodate a optimu battery and the 4-6 beers, I put the positive to the negative and the negative to the positve. Needless to say the cables started getting really hot really fast and the battery started to sizzile. I never ended up trying to start the car I just ended up leaving the car there. This afternoon when I went back to the car with a new battery the car started up fine, but the coolant light came on and wouldn't shut off. my power FC was saying the car was running at a fine temp, but my in dash gauge was higher up then it should have been. Do you think I fried the sensor?

you may have..Somehow,.
But that is not the reason I am answering.
I have a little "thing' That I do to my wires, and I tell everyone to do this:..Get some Dollar store electrical tape..RED and Black.Wrap the Positive at the cable clamp with the Red and the negative at the clamp with BLACK..it will Save you from trying to figure ut which wires are which,,Unless you are suffering From an Extreme Acid flashback from the 70's and everything is in technicolor!
