FEED downpipe material

AB FEED downpipe material

Alright so recently i bought a used FEED stainless downpipe and it has hole in it for an EGT probe that i want to fill (no i dont want to install a EGT probe) what i am wondering is if anyone knows the grade of stainless they use to make it so i can decide what to fill it with
I have 316 filler rod currently just wondering if i need something higher or diferent grade

First, it's less likely that it's 316 on the pipe.

For welding unknown, and most dissimilar steel alloys I'd go with 309L. 312would also work. In this instance where you are just filling a hole, and it's not a structural piece, it's not necessary to be picky about the filler.

Yeah, if your just covering a hole it shouldn't matter much.

yeah i did some more research and taught myself how to tig weld and filled it in , from what ive learnt it doesnt really matter that much what you use as long as the grade is higher than the material you are welding to, was fun to learn and turned out pretty dam good if i do say so myself lol (really gotta get better at takeing pictures)
also exhaust wrapped it and will be installing it as soon as its warm enough to drive it to work and get it on the hoist
