fd .. alternator dead?

when driving ~5 days ago i reversed, shifted to neutral. and the car just shut down(not stalled).

so today i go and get my oil changed. the mechanic didn't have the door closed for about 20 min so it was beeping the whole time etc.

cranked the car up 2 times to test the oil level. then backed up the car. parked it.

i go inside the place, come back out to leave. put the key in ignition, turn.. nothing. not even a click, not attempt to crank.

so i figure the battery is drained. so do they. they give me a jump and im off.

2 min down the road i pull into a parking lot, and then everything shuts off. i roll it into a parking space and call my friends.

they come. i go get a new battery at autozone. install it. crank. nothing. no click, nothing.

so is it my alternator? fuses?

happened to me, but it was my battery that died. But even so i think it might be the alternator because a mechanic friend told me that even with the old battery, after a run, the car should be able to charge up a bit, and if it doesnt, then the alternator is going bad. But even I am not that sure, becuase I am a new FD owner and still learning, hope this helps.

i've had to charge my battery once before this too. about a month ago. so im thinking alternator

u might want to get yours checked too, so the same thing doesn't happen. imagine if i was on the freeway going 80mph when it died, scary. im glad i pulled over when i did, i had a funny feeling about it and 15 sec later im rolling in a dead car trying 2 steer and brake.

i guess my other question would be.. could it be the belts and not the alternator itself? my belts tend to be very squeaky, does that mean they're loose?

whats going on. i checked the wires coming from the alternator today... didn't find anything loose. i reconnect the new battery... and this time the car... starts up good as new... ?

on sunday pep boys ran a diagnostic and told me my battery was dead.

i buy a new battery after the car dies while i'm driving. new battery doesn't fix it.. car won't crank or anything, hell the interior lights that would light up super dim wouldn't even light up at all 2 min after i put in the new battery.

i let the car sit the night and on monday i plug in the battery and try 2 crank. wont even crank. and lights still wont work.

today... it starts up first try. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

i checked voltages on both my new and old battery.. 13.15 and 12.89v.
