ok well theres 1st 2nd and 3rd gen rx7, so how can there be a FA FB FC and FD? thats what i want to know.

 

sa, not fa. the sa body style is slightly different then the fb. sort of like the s4 and s5, but a little more difference. but the body style is very similar so they are both considered 1st gens.

 

FB, FC, & FD come from VIN number designations. The FB came alone when the VIN went to 11 digits in 1981. Prior to 1981, the VIN was only 9 digits. Under the 9 digit system, the designation for the RX7 was "S". But, the alphabetical order was otherwise maintained with the "A".

There, mystery solved.
