engine light not going out... ever

I have an 89 convertible

I know you guys are tired of all these check engine light threads, but this is something new that I have not seen before...

I was getting an 11 and 17.

I replaced mY oxygen sensor and then disconnected the battery to clear the code.

When I turned the car back on, the check engine light came on again, but when I went to check for the new code, the light turned off then came back on and stayed on, no flashing, no codes just solid light the whole time, I stared at the thing for a good minuted just to make sure it would not blink...

So I am a fan of repeatable experiments, so I disconnected the battery again after letting the car warm up for a few moments and then let it sit for a minute. I hooked the battery back up and checked the codes again , before starting the car, and it still was not giving me any codes, so I started the car and the engine light came on again. I turned off the car to check the code again, and it is doing the same thing, When I turn the ignition to the on position the light will come on, go out, and come on again... and stay there, no more blinks, no more nothing...

Please help me figure how to get my light to turn off.

Update, since no one answered in the 2nd gen forum, I am posting here...

I did try leaving the battery disconnected over night... no luck, still getting a check engine light and still not getting any codes...

Where is the check engine light located? I looked thru the clock cluster, and couldn't find one that said anything like that.
