Well its actually easy to tell...

The rear Iron is for sure AUTOMATIC type
* No clutch inspection plate on the top of it, has the little casted pocket instead
* Auto flexplate instead of a Flywheel.

You can mate a manual transmission to an auto block. If you couldn't those that convert their cars from auto -> manual would have a heck of a time with the conversion.
