Hey, i have a 1st gen that i'm setting up for circuit racing and recently put in a series 5 13bt. I had it the engine ported and rebuilt by a professional, but i want to open the previous 13b and try my luck at rebuilding it myself.
i have a general idea of what to do as i've worked on numerous piston engines before. i was wondering if anyone knew of any books or videos on rotary rebuilding, since these engines are not to be taken lightly.

I learned what I needed with a racing beat catalog and the "how to modify your mazda" book. The catalogue is not as informative now and the book is out of print. Pinapple racing has good threads in the vendor section though.

 

What type of first gen do you have? Most first gens came with a 12A carb motor, only 84 and 85 GSL-SEs came with a 13B.

The internals on both are pretty similar, you can obtain a rotary rebuild video from Atkins, who happens to be a vendor on this forum.

 

probably SE , should be the best platform for racing a 1st gen(better suspension/boltpattern)
