Electric problems

I just did a s4 to s5 full interior swap. When i did the swap I used the same wiring harness for the dash. Funny thing is I plugged everything back in, but when I turn my car off it has no memory. Everything resets itself. Cd player, ac heat, stuff like that. I have to redue it all. I was wondering if anyone might have an idea on fixing this. Also I am running a cd player and an amp w/ subs. I think my alternator isnt producing enough electric, can I fix this or is there anyway to hook up a 3rd gen alt. If you guys have any ideas lemme know. By the way its a 88 gtu.

go to Dave Gibson's site and download the S4 and S5 factory service manuals, and compare the wiring. It maybe a simple as they moved a pin in the large dash-to-car plugs. If you look at all the parts that aren't working properly, you'll find a common link (probably a fuse on the fuse panel, hazards or brakes would be my guess, maybe instruments). Then trace that wire from the fuse block up to it's next junction, and see if it's connected correctly. So on and so on. Not a quick job unfortunately but not too hard in the world of electronics repairs

As for the amp and sub... you may want to upgrade to a S5 turbo alternator, that will get you a little more. The true test is at night though... with headlights on, AC on, and at idle, with the music turned up do the headlights dim in response to the loud parts? if so, you need a bigger alternator

Thumbs up

Yea at night, the lights dim and the cd player will like flash like get dim and light back up to its original brightness. The cd player will even do it during the daytime. Thanx for the help and could you or anyone direct me where to get one. Also do u need any special fittings or extra parts to mount up a s5 turbo alt.

thanx

it bolts right in, to do the wiring compare wiring diagrams (both available on Dave Gibson's site, IIRC) and use standard 1/4" spade connectors on the old wires, plugs right into the S5 alt.
