edelbrock 500 on 12a?

So I have the RB holley 465 setup on my 12a now and have had nothing but trouble from it. The secondaries not opening on time not idling and it even makes her sound like a Bridgeport!!!! Yea it beats me. I've read up and my guess is is not getting enough fuel. Because you can slightly crack the secondary butterflies open and she had just the smoothest idle and doesn't sound bridgeported anymore! even though I really do love how she sounds hehe but from this I thought a good ol edelbrock 500 would be great for her and they're a whole hell of alot easier to tune and tinker with. Would it be a wise choice to try and switch to it?

are you positive it's an actual RB Holley and not just a regular unmodified Holley?

have you tried jetting up?

I wouldn't buy another non-rotary-ready carburetor until you have exhausted ways to get yours to work because chances are you'll be buying the same kind of troubles.

It might be a wise choice to switch to an Edelbtock 500 on a 12A. I recently tested an Edelbrock 600 on a ported 6 port FC engine in an FB and it works really well. Seems to run way better than a Holley from what I can remember but I have yet to test one on this particular engine. The Edelbrock runs so well I see no need to try anything else.

If you cracked the secondaries open your introducing more air in the idle cicuit. Doesnt hurt to read up the basics for starters.

I'm researching this subject right now for my son's stock port '85 12a. Looks like everyone is getting best results with the RB manifold and 500 cfm Edelbrock Thunder AVS carb.
