Damn, what's up with my smog?

All of this is on a stock GSLSE 6-port motor

1) Here are my 1st pretest #'s before an oil change and on old plugs:

HC
15mph (2044rpm): 781
25mph (2222rpm): 801

CO
15mph: 7.49
25mph: 7.88

NO
15mph: 122
25mph: 140

My "NO" numbers passed brilliantly, but both "HC" and "CO" failed miserably. All I have is an intake, but perhaps my air pump isnt getting air to the cat. BTW, I haven't changed spark plugs since a loooong time ago and my cat. converter rattles when it's cold. I'm not sure if those will be such a great factor in helping me pass...

2) Here's my second pretest I just had done today. I changed my spark plugs, oil/oil filter, and put in about 8oz's of premix:

HC
15mph: 883
25mph: 841

CO
15mph: 6.13
25mph: 6.14

NO
15mph: 121
25mph: 138

I'm happy that my CO #'s dropped by more than 1%, but it's wierd that my HC #'s increased (especially by 100 ppm @ 15mph). Why is that?

I don't want to spend the money on a new cat converter until I can get the engine running smoothly and more fuel efficiently.

I also get only 200 miles to a tank! (That's a stock GSLSE tank of 16gallons!)

no friggin wonder

I think a few people would agree with me (qoute..My cat rattles when it is cold-unquote) that you need a new catalytic converter and that my friend will do wonders for you in both the emissions department and fuel economy.let me put it to you in loose english..the effin catalytic is blocking off the effin flow of exhaust!!Putting a new cat on will do a couple of things.. bring down your emissions ,allow your engine to "vent" the exhaust out and with that being said it will improve your fuel economy..just think of it this way...since your cat is probably pluggin up you are using more fuel...get the exhaust flowin again my friend and you will probably notice an improvement on the mileage your car was getting...remember it's just an opinion take it for what it is worth...if you agree with it ..it will take you about a half an hour to jack tha car up and remove the cat..if you shake it and **** drops out of it..consider the cat was the problem!Half an hour of your time is alot better thah half a grand spent on more gas and more emission tests.POST and let me know how it went..pm if you want.suggestion from a CRAZY CANUCK!..who'd a thunk it! later!!
