Crank Sensor ?

I have a 87 fc 1.3b what is the actual function of the crank sensor? I have been told it controls when the spark plugs fire and also when the injectors squirt but Not sure if that is correct... also what causes these rotarys to flood so easy?

the crank angle sensor CAS, tells the ECU where the engine is in its rotation, the ecu then can fire the spark plugs and injectors at the correct times.

these cars don't really flood once you have them running correctly. low compression, vacuum leaks, mis adjusted or bad sensors, leaky injectors, the list is long... if it makes you feel my dads 89 BMW wouldn't hot start either, right off the show room floor.
