Complete procedure for changing tranny and diff fluid?

Hey guys:

Can anyone walk me through step-by-step on how exactly to drain and change the oil in my tranny and diff. Its an 88 Turbo II.

I question whether this fluid has EVER been changed

I'm going to buy some redline for both applications. Any specific weight or viscosity? 75w90 seems typical

Thanks in advance

Um, differential you remove the lower bolt on the rear of the diff (there's 2). All the oil drains out. Put it back in, get a fluid hand pump (local auto parts store, they're cheap), and open the top plug. Fill with SAE90 gear fluid to the bottom of the top bolt hole.

Trans, remove bottom bolt (facing the ground, just forward of the trans mount). Let fluid drain out, and put sealant on plug, and reinstall plug with new washer (bring it to the autoparts store, they should be able to get a replacemnt). The fill plug is on the drivers side of the trans and has a square head. Same deal, fill with SAE90 gear oil

have fun, oh, and wear nose plugs, that **** stinks.

Grab the online shop manual from somewhere and follow those procedures. They're dead on (I did this a few months ago), but they do fail to mention that you'll need a pump to get the fluid back into both the tranny and the diff. Go invest in one of these pumps (found at local auto parts stores) and get some good fluids (redline, etc.).

If you need this shop manual, let me know and I'll get it to you somehow (though I think it's available here on the forum somewheres...)

Oh yeah, one last safety thing...make sure you loosen the filler bolts *BEFORE* you drain your fluid...if they don't come out for some reason, you'll have an empty tranny/diff and won't be able to refill Just a precaution you should take.
