Question Chip near the water o-ring groove

Hi guys,

I'm currently debating with myself if I can re-use this intermediate housing for a FD. The housing is in great condition except for a tiny chip near the inner water seal groove. The chip is not too deep.

Surely I don't like it but I would think that the o-ring should not have too much pressure (except for boost ????) since the chip is in the intake phase. I would like to have the opinion of more experimented builders.

I marked the location where the rotor housing sits to get the idea (see "Edge of the rotor housing").

Thanks a lot

Alex

Did you check the area surrounding the chip for weak spots? I think that should be useable. Not ideal, but useable. Apply a liberal amount of hylomar in that area and you should be good to go.

Thanks for the answer.

The housing seems solid around the ship.

Do you think I should repair it with something like jb weld?

I'm not a big fan of JB weld inside engines, but in that location it may be appropriate.

Also, check out the 'coolant seal savers' Karack is producing..... I believe his strengthening rings go along the outside though, not sure if it would help your situation.

Ive heard of people using jb weld in situations like this but I think its a bad idea IMO. You'll never know how good that bond is...especially in there.

JB Weld it, sand it and you are good to go.
