carbed motor, what ignition?

At the end of May I'll be selling my t2 and getting a project bug and putting in a s5 NA 13B. I'm going with a carburater for simplicity and I'm wondering what ignition I should use. Will a distributor from a 1st gen 12a work, I'm going to be spinning past the stock 8k rpm redline as this motor will be built and ported.

I'm using a direct fire setup incorporationg the trailing coils from a 2nd gen and a generic brand coil form AutoBone. Works pretty well.
