Car wouldnt start and shooting flames
Drove my 88 n/a about 20 miles the other day. Had it off for about 20-30 minutes. When i came back out it wouldnt start. It cranked and sounded like it started to fire but then just went back to cranking. Went to the KOI Cinci show for about 5 hrs and came back...fired right up. On the way home my buddy told me when i downshifted to 3rd and floored it I was spitting flames from my tailpipes. Ive only owned this car for a month now...any ideas as to whats going on?
+1
my car used to flood everytime I shut it off when it was warm, then I'd wait a while and it would start right up. of course I was broke so I had to rig it so I could use it until I had money. so I'd say get your injectors cleaned, and check out your maf.

Starting problem does sound like leaking injectors. Backfire on downshifting, I bet you hit it, backed off, downshifted and hit it again. That gave the engine enough time to pump raw fuel into the exhaust. You also don't have cats or it wouldn't do that normally. Some guys kill to get big backfires and shoot flames, lol.
You can pull the injectors and send them out to Witchhunter or RC Engineering to have them cleaned and calibrated.
