BOSE stereo crap-fest
i bought my fd new in '94... and this bose stereo has always been a nightmare.
here's the deal:
it's totally stock. i like the bose wave thing in the back not 'cause it works so well but 'cause it fits so well! i can't get rid of it... but i'd LOVE to do this. YOU guys, please tell me if i'm dreamin'... and what i'll need to make it come true
FIRST OFF i put some 6x9's 4ohms with an amp mounted in the back and bled the stereo signal going to the amp to a reduction box, then to the power amp, then to the speakers. it's worked perfectly for ten years now... well, 8
other than that, it's stock! a few months ago the 4" driver's cheap-o as hell speaker got warped from water damage. now i need a speaker. so i called around to see if i could get a GOOD QUALITY (not this paper-crap) 1ohm speaker (yup, it's 1 ohm). The answer? NO! "CALL BOSE!"
so, i did and talked to this girl with a sexy as anything voice! Kristina! Anyway, she told me bose would send me a direct replacement speaker for $40
she told me it's a duplicate speaker, still paper cone. sigh...
so, Q#1: can i get a GOOD quality speaker in a 1ohm range or must I stick with this bose crap?
Q#2: can I get a 1ohm replacement speaker for the BASE speaker that will fit in the octopus bose wave thingy?
Q#3: what's the procedure for sticking in an afer-market head unit and STILL use the stock speaker/amps? I'm thinking of getting a nice double-din NAV touch-screen 5.1 system (yes, i still wanna use that center channel on the dash!) and need to know what I need to do to hook it up? Do I need a wiring harness? Low-level to proprietary "bose lever" converter (or does that come w/the harness?)?
thanks your guys.... david
