Bosch 044 installation question
Bosch 044 installation question
so i'm looking at the bosch 044 fuel pump but am a bit confused about the installation. it says that if installed in series between an existing pump and the fuel rail, you can actually increase the pump's output. how can that be? if mounting it in series, isn't your output limited by the lowest output of the 2 pumps? let's say for example, pump 1 flows 200lph and i add the bosch to it. won't the bosch's max flow be 200lph since that is it's input?
and installing in series, aren't you also decreasing reliability as now u have 2 points of failures? not understanding the installation in series. thanks.

In series the first pump doesn't have to build pressure, it just supplying the second pump. Since the first pumps output is rated at x pressure, the flow goes up since it no longer is having to build pressure.
As far as reliability, if either pump fails your fuel flow will be little or nothing, first pump won't be able to force it through the second, second won't be able to pull it through the first.

thanks ryan. that does make a bit of sense. but then u have to make sure that pump 1 flows enough to support the pump 2's input. i may just install it as a stand along pump, not in series (removes complication and failure point).
