Aluminum AST for $70-$80

This is not so much a group buy but rather a limited run opportunity. I have just replaced my radiator thanks to a forum deal and I wanted to replace my AST while I was at it. The major problem I was faced with was that $149 is a lot of money for stinking aluminum can. I saw the Pettit’s AST at SS4 and I was not impressed. My first thought was that I could make this for next to nothing and save myself some. The stock AST is not safe, but for whatever reason Mazda thought it was necessary to have one. So, if you are going to keep it, you might as well upgrade it if possible. Here is your chance to save some money and retain the stock cooling system.

I have purchased all the materials to build up to 5 with the exception of the filler necks but I should be able to secure them by Monday September 9th. I have a specialized aluminum welder guy lined up to weld my AST on Monday, and he has given me a set price per unit and said that he could easily finish them all in a single day.
If there are more than 5 buyers then I will make the extra units, but I’m not in this to go into production. I just want to offset some of the expenses of putting in the new radiator, and offer a great deal to fellow 7 owner.

So here is the deal:

The design is similar to the stock AST in that it has a narrow lower chamber and larger volume upper chamber. The unit is 100% 6061 aluminum and utilizes stock diameter hose nipples. This unit also features the .9mm jetting as found in the stock AST on the lower radiator return nipple.
Your cost is $80 plus shipping.

There is a second and less expensive style where the design is simplified by not adding the lower narrow chamber but rather keeping the same volume square inches from top to bottom. This would look like a 2x3x5.5 box with nipples and a filler neck. The advantage to this is that it will contain more coolant volume, about 9 ounces more.
Your cost is $70 plus shipping.

They should be ready to ship by no later than Friday, September 14th.
If you want one, please e-mail me and I will send one out to you.
Payment:
Money Orders are fine, and so are personal checks but the AST will not be shipped until the check clears.
You can also use Paypal, or Escrow.

Special Note:
For every AST sold I will donate $5 to the RX-7 Forum.

I will do my best to get a picture of one. I don't have a digital camera but my friend does and I will try to get for a day. I may post the drawings to help visualize it.

If any one wants a custom mounting plate welded on just give me a shout. These ASTs are designed to mount in the stock position and utilize the stock rubber mount from the original AST. if you don't have your stock AST anymore just tell me and I will find a rubber bumper of some sort to get you by.

This AST is a little more compact then the stock AST which means you can mount it just about anywhere as long as it's above the radiator.

I have yet to measure the volume of the stock AST, but my AST is larger than stock in volume. It's only larger by a few ounces, but it's still more capacity.

I apologize for not posting the end of this group deal within the tech forum. I had posted this in the 3rd gen forum which ended up in the group buy section. I have kept up with updates on the other two forums but forgot about this one. The deal is that I have sold the five that I originally offered, and that I also learned an important lesson in economics.

I will not be making any more ASTs at $80 but I will be willing to make any extra for $100 plus shipping. This will help make sure that I am covering all the material plus a little for the effort.

Sorry again for not updating this post.
