Alternator power wire gauge

Hey guys I'm working on rewiring my 93 FD but I'm stuck at the alternator wires. Factory I had two wires coming out of the alternator to the battery for charging. My question is I think the two wires are 4 gauge? Or maybe 2? But is it okay to replace with a single 0 gauge wire. Or even 2 gauge? Want to make sure enough power gets back to the battery. Any help or insight is appreciated. thanks!

Find out the actual gauge (FC is 8ga IIRC) and replace with high temp/voltage wire (welding cable) of equivalent or greater copper cross section.
