All BS aside: Rotor coating success/failure?

I've seen a lot of crosstalk about rotor housing coatings, i.e. cermet, chrome, resurfacing what have you but there is very little straight information. Looks like rechroming is still some ways off, but cermet is here now which brings us to the next question.

A search of posts turns up all kinds of results of the 'I heard this/that/the other sucks' variety claiming there are numerous failures but no direct information.

So here's the question: what are people's real world experience with this stuff? Got pics?

I keep hearing about cermet flaking/peeling but so far have not seen a single pic of a housing that is peeling, only some which are from engines that had apex seal failure which all still seem to be in pretty good shape.

What's the deal with steel apex seals on cermet? Do they really last or ?? Is it essential to run ceramic seals on cermet?
