89 na revving when off the throttle?

so i was driving my 89 na fc today and when i pushed in the clutch to shift the engine revved by itself to the rev limiter and stayed there. I then had to shut the car off and restart to get it to stop. I just bought the car and am wondering if anyone has had this problem as well. The car does have a streetported motor, walbro, rtek 2.0, mazdaspeed air flter. Please help because I would rather not blow my car up.

check the throttle cable and the Linkage at the Throttle body.Make sure that the TB is opening and closing freely.Check for any "hanging up"(sticking).
My car pulled a 6k Rev "fit"..and it turned out to be dirty springs and linkage on the Throttle body.
