Question 6-port question

I'm putting together a 6 port 13B to go into my '84 GSL. I was checking the auxilary ports for "cracks, damage and wear" and making sure they "turn smoothly" like the Haynes manual says. I can't turn them by hand, but they turn if I use a pair of needle nose pliers. The hole sthat the ports slide into seem kinda gummed up. No problem, it can be fixed. My question is this: How do those ports open up? I did a search but didn't find much. From what I understand, there are some sort of actuators that open the ports when they get about 2psi of exhaust pressure on them. I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me, in more detail, how this happens.

Also, what would happen if I took the rotating ports out? Would it cause damage to something, would it give the rotors too much fuel at low RPMs causing it to run like a bag of hammers, or would it increase low end power and torque?

Oh, and if anyone has a picture of these actuators, I'd like to see them.

Thanks a lot,
Ed

taking them out decreases low end torque, leave them in, mazda put them there for a reason haha, theyll even partially open at lower RPMs, great design
