3rd Gen Rex motors fragil?

Sup all,

I am in the process of finding an RX-7 to buy and i have heard from multiple people that it is a fragil engine that is always breaking down/always have to rebuild. Is this true bout the 3rd Gen motors or are the people breaking them that easly beating the crap out of them? any info helpfull.

Rotory engines that are not turbo last a long time but heat is a problem on all rotorys. So when a turbo is added more heat is added. On a 3rd generation 7 hot air is sometimes drawn into the intake due to inadequate supply to the intake area. There is a small catalytic converter just under the turbos that bakes the engine bay most of the time especialy ofter shut down. The underhood temps on the 3rd gen are high plus Mazda wanted a low hood and to get it they cowled the engine bay very tightly which restricts air circulation. To increase reliability a cold air intake is a must and so is a down pipe. I dont think the upkeep is too much more then other performance cars. Try to go to www.robrobinette.com There is a section about buying a new car and what to liik for.
