2nd gen rear ends

I was wondering if anyone could help me decide what differential is in my 86 rx7. did they make viscous limited slips or only clutch types? how can i tell what diff i have? any help would be appreciated

you have a clutch type..S4 equipped with LSD are clutch type and S5 equipped with LSD are viscous..

The S4 has a better locking feel to it. Does cirlcles just nice! My bud's 89 doesn't feel the same, kinda feels mooshy back there. Maybe his has been driven to hard or something.

jack car up in the rear and spin a tire by hand. If the other tire spins in the same direction you have LSD. What condition it is in you won't know until you take it apart. S4 rebuild kits are about $50 for the clutch pack and they are very strong (T2 model). You could always just do a burnout.....

Heres a funny fact tho.....my GX tII swap had a stock gx open diff in it when i got it, and it would lay two streaks, even tho, if i jacked it up, they spun opposites LOL.



Now i have a tII rear end that whines. God hates me
